The Horticultural Club of Boston was founded in 1911 as a private club for the purpose to further the interests of Horticulture, in all its branches, and to instruct or discuss subjects useful and beneficial to the horticultural community.

“The membership, then and now, was comprised of individuals of diverse horticultural interests and backgrounds....and others 'who have attained at least a degree of eminence in some branch of horticulture, but permitting judicious mixture of amateurs.' The membership continues to include authors, researchers, directors of public gardens, landscape architects, nurserymen, garden designers, estate managers, arborists, horticulturists, educators, men and women; all sharing a common interest in good food and drink, lively conversation, exchanges of ideas and information, and presentations by members and guests blended together in a fellowship of friends.”
